Kirtan Tom
I am a woodworker and furniture designer based in the Fashion District of Los Angeles. Being largely self-taught, I rely on continuous practice and care to achieve the expertise needed to create beautiful and functional furniture. Harmony and balance are the utmost goals in anything I create.
I fell in love with woodworking in Brooklyn, New York, and promptly quit my day job to focus on it full-time. Spending time with other woodworkers and craftspersons broadened my skills, and I found a deep well of creative knowledge in my colleagues. I spent as much time as possible practicing my craft and taking classes to learn from others. Always building, my only rule was that each new project had to include a technique I had never done before, or a variation on one I knew well. Old techniques inspire creativity, and practice hones the skills required to turn it into reality. Today, I continue to learn from the wonderful community at Allied Woodshop, of which I am the owner and director. Each project brings new excitement and challenges, and I look forward to every moment I get to spend in the woodshop.
Some day, I hope to share my love of woodworking with my daughter.
